    Top Tips!

    Did you know?
That if your Self-service customer's ad is rejected by all or some destinations, you will receive an automatic email?
If the ad was booked using a credit card, then it will be refunded directly but you must write to your customer and explain what has happened.

    PHOENIX Newsletter
    International Classified Media Association
    Nr. 19 - September 2006

    Dear Karina,

Hello and welcome to this September edition of the PHOENIX e-newsletter.
This month sees a number of system updates, improvements to PoPs (yes, really!!) and the completion of the Network Online module (are you excited yet?).
There is also a flurry of activity surrounding the Online Revenue Generation Lab and preparations for the PHOENIX workshop in Munich.
If you are interested in attending either of these events, there are still some places available and you should visit the ICMA events page for more information.
For now, have a read through this months changes.

    Kind regards,

    Craig Wilkinson

    New Developments
    PHOENIX system changes

This month has seen many system updates that should improve workflow for PHOENIX users. After a successful operations meeting, many system bugs have now been resolved and a review of 'new feature' requests has been scheduled.

To make sure that there is no mis-understanding about what constitutes as a 'system revision' and a bug, please note the following definitions:

    System Bug
A bug is defined as something which prevents 'normal' use of the ad- exchange system (Publishers ad management or Self- service). Examples:- You cannot access the system, are unable to import/export ads, destinations have disapperaed from view etc

    System revision
A system revision is defined as something that improves or adds functionality to the present system but does not prevent users from using the system.

Now that's cleared up, let me tell you about how you can get your suggestions across! If you have an idea that will benefit EVERY user, send me an email outlining your request. Your idea will be added to the revision list for consideration at the next scheduled system revision meeting.

If there is enough money available and your idea contributes to system usability then it is more likely to be approved. Of course, the amount of money available depends on how many ads are put through the system so the message is quite simply - book more ads to help build a better system!

    Reminders
    Self-service & IT

The time has come to give your IT departments a prod and ask them why they have not yet placed the Self-service link on your paper's webpage! Be sure to remind them that unless this is done, there will not be enough money in the 'pot' to further develop the system (and make your working life easer!).

    User Focus
Who I am and what I do

    Name: Martina Steisslinger
    Job Title: ACP
    Paper Name: das inserat
    Country of publication: Germany
What was the last film you saw? “Garden State”, a great feelgood movie with an awesome freaking soundtrack.
Which song did you last listen to? “Follow My Way” by Chris Cornell unbelievably beautiful voice, amazing lyrics + music at its best

What special talent do you have? Playing the drums in a Hard Rock Band + Painting
How long have you worked at your present company? 9 years
What are your responsibilities? General administration for our paper, support of our sales team, customer care, administration of display ads, preparations for production and - of course - anything connected with ICMA.

What can you tell me about the city/country you publish in? Frankfurt Am Main is the largest city in the German state Hesse, situated on the 'Main' river & has a population of over 660,000 people, (the whole Rhine main area has 5 million) and it has been Germany's financial capital for centuries, as it is the home of a number of major banks and brokerages.
Frankfurt is often nicknamed "Bankfurt", "Mainhattan" (derived from the local Main river) or "The Big Äppel" (named for its apple wine industry).
It is famous for various big fairs, e.g. the Frankfurt Book Fair (Frankfurter Buchmesse) and the automobile exhibition IAA (Internationale Automobil- Ausstellung).
Frankfurt is also home to many cultural and educational institutions including the JohannWolfgang Goethe University and the second major university - Business School of Finance. We have many museums, most of them lined up along the Main river on the museum embankment (Museumsufer, with lots of great events throughout the year!), and a large botanical garden, the Palmengarten (A visit is recommended!).
The best-known museums are “das Städelsche Kunstinstitut” (museum of art) and the Senckenberg Natural History Museum. Others include the Museum of Modern Art, the Schirn Art Gallery, museums for architecture, movies and communications as well as the Jewish Museum (Museum Judengasse). As I don’t have one week to name everything that’s worth being mentioned, you really have to come and see for yourself which is done very easily as we have a major International Airport, one of the biggest in Europe (which ranks amongst the world’s top ten). So come and see this melting pot of all conceivable cultures and nationalities, you’ll be very welcome!
What is the most unusual Ad you have ever received? The last one I remember was an ad from an Eastern European paper, in German language, the advertiser wanted to sell a bottling plant for “babywater”
What would you like to do when you retire? A world tour with my band and maybe do some more cross bike rallys.

Who would you most like to meet? As John Bonham already passed away, I’d really like to meet Craig Wilkinson once in my life.

    Thank-you

What? I hear you say! he's not moaning about PoPs? Is he ill?

No, I'm not! But I did want to say a big thank-you to all ACPs who have made that extra effort to reduce the number of outstanding PoPs in the system.
I know that for some, this has meant a lot of extra work on top of an already busy schedule and your efforts are well appreciated!
